$135.00
The Grayguns P-Series Modern Classic™ Commander Hammer is the ultimate action upgrade for your DA/SA SIG Sauer® pistol.
Our design perfects the advanced geometry of the first custom-made hammers Bruce Gray designed in 2012, yielding the smoothest DA pull possible.
Description
You’ve seen photos of Bruce’s hand-finished, custom hammers for P-Series SIG pistols. Customers who sent in their guns for in-house builds could order one of the hundreds made of the original design. Grayguns is now thrilled to add these premium hammers to our list of upgrade components for the SIG Classic DA/SA series of pistols.
A rowel hammer (a.k.a. ring hammer) has been incorporated into the design to complement a Modern Classic theme.
Our top-tier manufacturing process draws upon the best techniques learned from our fifty years of technical expertise in modern manufacturing and traditional gunsmithing. Like everything we make for you, it is guaranteed for life.
You won’t fear a tight DA first shot again.

Aligning it correctly proved a little tricky, but once I hit the sweet spot it went right in. I like how the rebound spring is centered rather than off to the side, like the other P-series classics. I needed a modern factory hammer to install in a German P220 without the rebound spring, so I decided to get this hammer for an American P220 to gain the part. Don’t know if I can really tell that much difference, but this style is much easier to thumb and the finish is superb – perhaps a little slicker and offering less resistance on the pull. May consider getting another for the German and putting the other in the parts bin.
Fit and feel amazing, all went together well and functions well.
Functions even better.
Recently purchased and installed GrayGuns 1) Short Reset Trigger Kit, 2) Custom Strut System, 3) Modern Classic Hammer, and 4) Dual Adjustable Curved Trigger on my P220 DASA Sig Legion. Bench testing on five group averages showed the DA went from 9lb-1.6oz to 8lb-1.5oz — the SA went from 4lb 8.2oz to 2lb-5.8oz. Actual shooting results were unbelievable. The P220 now feels like a totally new machine. I think it will far outshoot any of the 45s I currently own, and (ignoring magazine capacity issues) is probably going to be my favorite 45 to shoot ……. This includes an FNX, FN545, P220 SAO, and several 1911s. In my eyes, whoever designed and built these changes are currently on a pedestal up in the clouds next to the big guy himself (JMB).
The Modern Classic Hammer was another fantastic upgrade from Grayguns. I installed this and a the flat trigger in my Sig P229 Legion in 357sig. I had previously installed the Sig P series Strut System.
The trigger is butter smooth, no stacking. The short reset is nothing short of phenomenal.
I also have to give a great review on the Sig P239 hammer spring I previously purchased. The only place I could find one.
The quality Grayguns parts added to an already great pistol, and made it even better.
I’m now looking forward to doing the same to my Sig P220 Elite.
Perfect hammer for anyone considering carrying their P-series Sig, or who is looking for an upgrade to the stock part. The finish is excellent, and the overall design is truly a modern remake of a classic.
After adding your enhanced Trigger and Trigger bar plus the heavy recoil rod and spring the Hammer was just another ideal piece for this 226. I loved the performance derived from using your parts and the pistol is a pleasure to shoot.
Beautifully machined and finished, this DA/SA hammer will enhance the function of any classic P-Series trigger. It’s even better when installed with Grayguns’ custom strut system and their short reset sear. Installed together, these parts result in superb trigger action. And, just to pile on to other commenters here, the skeleton rowel spur design looks downright terrific, lending a custom appearance to any pistol. Seen here on a P220-5 10mm Auto.
Replaced factory P229 hammer with this. I also upgraded the struts and springs at the same time so I can’t isolate performance improvements. What I can say is I appendix carry and this hammer is way more comfortable to cancel compared to the factory.
All my SIGs have a variety of GG components but I have one favorite P229 in 357 SIG that had everything except the GG hammer. I installed it yesterday. I took before and after readings using NRA weights for the SA and a pull gauge for the DA. The installation of the GG hammer took off .5 lb from the DA (it went from 10 to 9.5) and .25 lb off the SA (it went from 3.5 to 3.25). The DA was slightly smoother and also seemed a tad shorter but that could have been my imagination. The gun was great the way it was, so was the extra $124 worth the small gain? Well, it’s that effort and money put out to get an A+ result rather than an A. So if getting the best action job possible is important to you this hammer is worth the money. And it looks great!
I recently converted my P226 Nitron to a “Legion” by replacing the grips with Hogue Legion grips, low profile controls and a short reset trigger. This hammer was just what I needed to create a unique look. On the practical side I find it easier to thumb the hammer due to the unique geometry of the ring. I’m extremely happy with my purchase.
I installed this on a P220R that I had previously sent to GG for the ELS trigger installation (which is nothing short of awesome), and I couldn’t be more pleased – and I definitely learned many lessons regarding Sig hammer fired disassembly/reassembly… I’ve only been able to function check with snap caps, and heading out to verify performance this weekend. Now, if GG would make a version of this hammer for my SAO Legions…
