Our HK USP and HK45 Short Reset System replicates our custom in-house short reset conversion with a drop-in kit for your pistol. These kits are cut from bar stock steel and provide an exacting fit for easy installation.

It shortens the reset travel distance by about one-third, reduces trigger over-travel, and reduces pull weight while maintaining all factory safety functions.

This kit is specific to the HK USP and HK45 models with or without a thumb safety, including DA/SA and LEM variations. Review our Fit Guide and trigger bar notes below.

Description

The HK USP and HK45 Short Reset System should be an easy installation for those familiar with the pistol’s trigger mechanism.

The control latch is precisely wire cut EDM from ground bar stock to exacting tolerances. Properly heat-treated and coated in a durable nickel PTFE finish for a lifetime of durability and smooth function.

Engineered to provide several benefits:

  • Shortens trigger reset travel distance by approximately 30 percent
  • Converts the action to drive the sear directly off the control latch – instead of transferring energy through the catch – for a direct drive connection between the control latch and sear
  • Reduced trigger over travel values
  • Maintains all factory safety functions
  • It simplifies installation and reassembly as the control latch can be installed separately from the catch. (Similar to the P30 and P2000.)
  • Works with both DA/SA and LEM variants
  • Included Grayguns Firing Pin Block Spring reduces stacking in DA pull and lightens trigger pull

Parts Included in Kit

Install all parts, including the extended sear roll pin, as the parts are designed to be installed together.

  • Custom-designed Grayguns Control Latch
  • Custom replacement Firing Pin Block Spring
  • Custom replacement Extended Sear Roll Pin

HK USP & HK45 Short Reset System Fit Guide

The kit works with the following DA/SA and LEM variants – with or without a thumb safety:

  • USP
  • USP Elite
  • USP Expert
  • USP Compact
  • USP Tactical
  • HK45
  • HK45 Compact

Our kits will not fit the following variants:

  • Double Action Only pistols
  • MK23
  • Early USP models with joined one-piece catch, control latch, or a short catch that stops the hammer rather than a spur. These older versions are rare and usually easily identified because they lack the rubber coating on the hammer thumb stud.
  • We have not tested our system with the P8A1 version of the USP. A limited number were imported to the USA, and customers have had mixed results after installing the kit. One reported great results, another not so much.) We do not suggest our kit for the P8A1 at this time.

Important Trigger Bar Notice

Our gunsmiths have determined variance in some HK45/USP trigger bars. Some guns have an angle cut on the front side of the sear on the trigger bar. (See photos below.)

We have found that installing our parts in a firearm with the extra cut will induce some issues within the gun. In double-action mode with the safety on, the trigger bar allows the hammer to drop onto the catch as if it were being de-cocked.

We do not recommend our parts be used with a trigger bar with this extra cut. However, the gun will not go off in the case of the extra cut. Please consult your local gunsmith if you do not know how to check your trigger bar.

  1. For reference I’ve worked on my own firearms since I was a teenager, 44 now. It wasn’t easy as I learned as I went. If you’re going into the USP watch a few videos to familiarize with what’s coming. My results are Outstanding in my .40 compact LEM. I never imagined the USP being this capable based on what I had read. If you have the LEM make this your next upgrade along with the flat trigger. Remember… you can’t take it with you $. Enjoy the best while we’re here!

  2. After installing the short reset system, there is zero take up on following shots. Pretty darn close to a perfect trigger now.

  3. Installed the SRS on my USP .40. Older style USP firing pin and block. GG customer service was extremely helpful getting the parts I needed to complete the install on the older model USP. The finished product is well worth the cost and the installation is pretty easy if you look for some instructions online. The new reset feels crisp and has dramatically reduced the travel to reset. I am very pleased I chose to install the SRS. The trigger was the one thing about my USP that I didn’t like that much, but I am really enjoying shooting it with the SRS. Trigger now breaks at 3.5lbs in S/A, down from about 4.5 prior to the GG install. I also installed the GG straight trigger. Loving the upgrades and customer service from GG!

  4. I recently purchased this along with the flat trigger for my USP 40. I found the installation of the products themselves to be very straight forward. I ended up removing/ smoothing/ polishing all internals during the installation which added a fair amount of complexity to the project, but if you’re planning to do just the kit install it’s quite painless and I felt like it could be done by someone that did not have extensive experience, without too much effort. The combination of the kit and the trigger were the final piece of the puzzle that I was looking for to improve the feel and reset over the match trigger kit from HK. I maintained all of the springs and other components from the match trigger kit and added the components from this kit along with improving the internal components, and I couldn’t be more pleased. If you’re on the fence and reading this review to decide if it’s worth it, or if it’s better than the match trigger kit, the answer is simple. Yes it is.

  5. I put the short-reset kit in a P2000sk that I’d had for many years, along with a short trigger, with the HK LEM system. Magic. Based on that I decided to install the short reset in a USP-45 Compact, and a couple of HK45C’s. I ordered LEM parts kits for the USP-C and a HK45C, and installed the short-reset kits at the same time. The installation is not simple, but also not difficult, and if one works methodically, it’s no problem. I’ve done it a dozen times, and at this point, it takes a few minutes. A Glock installation tool (punch) is helpful, I was unable to install the firing pin block spring in the USP-C; Grayguns tech confirmed that my pistol was too old, and uses the old style firing pin block; I’d need to install anew firing pin and block (probably not worth it). Even without that spring change, the kit functions as advertised, and in concert with a flat trigger, and the LEM trigger system, makes for the best possible version of a USP Compact. The USP-C went from a safe queen to a pistol that I really like. The HK45’s are both consistent pulls and resets, smoother, with a much shorter, more positive reset. What they both need now is a Grayguns straight trigger (which is not available, but Grayguns advises it’s in production). The HK curved trigger breaks too far back in the trigger guard; the Grayguns USP-C trigger is perfect, and a vast improvement. The HK45C needs that trigger. The parts are sound, very well designed, and functionally, perfect. I won’t own another HK pistol without them.

  6. First off, I agree with Grayguns that a competent gunsmith oughta do the work. I found it stressful, though successful…..I used this on a .45 USP Elite, trying to build a competitive target pistol. The Elite trigger was just not good enough; it was too hard to squeeze, gritty, and the trigger swings at an angle that forces my finger into the trigger guard, where it drags in a “stick-slip” fashion. This kit with a wolf springs 12# hammer spring reduced the pull a bit in single action, reduced it a lot in double action, and made a big difference in the DA reset point. The grittieness was improved, although I used Amsoil gear oil which accounts for some of that improvement. I reshaped the inside of the trigger guard with a sharp knife to keep my finger from dragging. The sum of all these labors is a pretty good trigger. The gunsmiths at Grayguns do some things I cannot, like Nickel Poly Tetra Floro Ethylene coating.

    • Chris,
Your experience after installing the kit is not typical. If you have not called our customer service team, can you please reach out to them?
We’ll update our reply after you speak with them. I’m confident we can get your questions answered and figure out what is happening.

  8. I purchased the HK USPc Short Reset System in addition to the Straight Trigger Kit in anodized black and though not surprised, it functions perfectly. Furthermore, the gunsmith that installed both kits said that this is an excellent company with excellent products and that I would be really happy with the new changes the products provide, and I can wholeheartedly say it has completely changed the way this gun functions, increasing efficiency, effectiveness, functionality. Reduces Reset as advertised.
    Money well spent! Thank you!

  9. This is by far one of the best upgrades to install into your USP to greatly improve the shootability. Its night and day difference between the factory sear and this short reset upgrade, it makes the gun feel like a conpetition piece. I recommend this, and the flat face trigger as upgrades to everyone that owns this platform.

  10. I purchased a like-new USP Compact 9mm recently (CB date code) and ordered the reset kit. After install, the thumb safety wouldn’t engage upward. I spoke with Chris in customer service and he immediately knew my problem. He emailed me a shipping label and after a 3-day turnaround, I received the modified latch. I reinstalled the new latch and voila! My USPc works perfectly. Thanks Chris!

  11. I have GrayGuns short reset kits in all of my LEM P30s and now my LEM HK45C. They make the LEM much more shootable, and are highly recommended. Now, if GG can just be persuaded to do a flat trigger for the HK45C…

  12. This makes my hk45 reset short and crisp! Easy for me to install. This along with a nickel sear spring is a must on all my HK hammer fired pistols!
