Oddly, everything about this guide rod has worked in complete reverse for me. Installed into a P229-1 along with a SIG OEM braided recoil spring resulted in binding; my slide failing to return to full battery and leaving the FAT guide rod extruded a quarter-inch from the front of the receiver.
Switching to a Wolff factory weight spring, though, ensured full functionality of the FAT guide rod, despite counsel from GrayGuns staff.
The result was to put the FAT into a competition pistol where poor reliability only results in lower scores. It will not ride in a carry gun where life may be the final score; that gun houses OEM guide rod and factory spring.
Hi Erik! First, thank you for being a repeat customer. We greatly appreciate your business. Your experience with our guide rod is not at all typical, and we do suspect something may have been a bit off with the OEM spring. If you an reach out to our customer service team, we’d be happy to discuss this issue with you.
Solid guide rod that drops right in place. Also bought for an older P226.
I just purchased a sig p229 legion in 9mm. I loved the gun but hated the zipper type noise it was making when racking the slide. The guide rod that came with the gun had ribs maybe from the machining process. The SS fat guide rod took all that noise out. It feels and sounds so much smoother. Small change big difference.
I previously experienced this guide rod when I purchased the 4.7 Classic slide for a build. I really appreciated the ability to select springs for my various loads just like I used to do with my 1911’s. When i saw I could buy the rod separately, I immediately bought one for my WC P320. With a 12 lb spring the gun is much easier to operate the slide and for older shooters with arthritis this is a great option to have. I do not have any problem with the takedown lever on the WC P320 because it is the standard size barrel.
Please change the stars to five. I mistakenly entered one.
The stainless steel fat guide rod is a perfect fit in my Sig P226 pistol. My order was processed quickly and delivered by US mail in 3days.
Ordered the Fat Guide Rod for my P320. Very nice quality and now I can tune my gun to my handloads just by swapping out 1911 springs. Shipping was fast and communications were top notch.
SO I purchased a used 226 40 Cal. I had carried one for a decade on patrol before my department switched to the G17. Being that it’s was used I knew several components could use upgrading and or switching out. A friend of mine recommended Gray Guns for my replacement parts. I ordered a stainless guide rod and new recoil spring. This replaces a phosphate guide rod which I have never been a fan of. I’ve only seen one break in my tenure but that’s one too much. The stainless guide rod is a great replacement for my 226 and the spring is an upgrade from the factory as well. I highly recommend using Gray at least for Sig Sauer parts. Ill be ordering more in the future very soon.
Another product that’s amazing. Changed the feel of my recoil and added some weight. Awesome
I put one in both my P220 West German .45 and my P226rE2 .357 Sig and they improved the balance of the guns with slightly better recoil control. The evident improvement was in hand cycling of the pistols was smoother , Another great Gray Guns product !
This is the second guide rod i purchased. When the package arrived, I assumed I had the right part, but it would not fit the gun. We eventually figured out, that even though I had ordered the proper part, I had received a guide rod for an X model. Chris in customer service took care of things and I just installed the proper rod in the pistol. Works as it should. Thank you!
I use a lot of GG’s upgrades and this little dude is an awesome finishing touch to any build… or just a simple drop in upgrade from factory guide rod
