What to Bring – Pistol

Although each pistol program offered by Grayguns Inc. may have specific requirements, we’ve put together a listing of equipment appropriate for every pistol class.

Service Pistol

  • 9mm, .40, .357 SIG or .45 ACP
  • 9mm preferred only from a cost point

Training Holster

  • Practical Fundamentals: Kydex belt or paddle holster
  • Int. / Adv. Competition: USPSA, IDPA, etc. approved holster
  • Not permitted: Cross-draw or shoulder holsters
  • If you have a holster related question, please ask.
  • Some holsters are available to use during a class
  • Companies to consider: Comp-Tac or Blade-Tech

Pistol ammunition

  • 300 to 400 rounds per training day
  • New factory or commercially re-manufactured ball ammunition only
  • Reloaded ammunition is not permitted
  • Standard velocity only, no +P ammunition permitted
  • No hollow point ammunition
  • No exceptions to ammunition requirements due to the safety issues
  • If you have an ammunition related question, please ask.

Pistol magazines

  • We suggest a minimum of five to seven magazines, but more is better.

Magazine carriers

  • Some safe means to carry magazines, on your person, to recharge your firearm four times
  • e.g. 4 magazines carriers/pouches

Required Health and Safety Equipment

  • Wraparound eye protection
  • Hearing protection (Electronic hearing protection is highly recommended)
  • Some way to hydrate yourself. (Camelbak, water bottles, etc.)
  • Weather and temperature appropriate attire
  • Jeans, BDUs, or canvas type pants are recommended
  • Gloves, socks, boots, Under Armor, rain coat etc.
  • No sandals, tank tops or other sleeveless shirts permitted on the range.

Weather appropriate protection

  • Sunscreen
  • Lip balm
  • Insect repellent
  • Wide brim hat
  • Stocking cap

Highly Recommended General Items

  • Cleaning & maintenance supplies for daily pistol maintenance.
  • Folding chair
  • Elbow and Knee pads
  • Bandaids for minor scrapes
  • Protein or power bars
  • Rear tail-cap type flashlight (e.g. Surefire, Pentagon, Streamlight)
  • Pen and notebook
